The Milk Factory

Electronic Press Kit

The Milk Factory was created by guitarist Edmund Lauret and pianist Thijs Troch, prominent representatives of the adventurous contemporary Ghent jazz scene. The scene has been flourishing in the past few years and is characterized by its incredible versatility and constant urge to innovate.

In contrast to the music they create with bands such as Nordmann or Hypochristmutreefuzz, The Milk Factory walks a completely different path; musing melodies, dreamy intimacy and warm harmonies are the DNA of this youthful top group.

In addition to Edmund and Thijs, we also find four absolute tastemakers from that thriving  scene. Viktor Perdieus (tenor saxophone) and Jan Daelman (flute) form the front line; the rhythm section of Kobe Boon (bass) and Benjamin Elegheert (drums) plays modestly and supports intensely.

In 2018 they presented their well received first EP in Belgian venues including de Handelsbeurs in Gent.

In January 2020 their debut album was released on the W.E.R.F. Records.

The album was recorded, mixed and produced by Koen Gisen, who is known for his work with Dans Dans, Ottla, Schntzl, Bony King Of Nowhere, …

The images of Aaron Lapeirre serve as the cover and back cover of the record as well as the singles (spotify). The lay out was done by Jelle Martens.

The album comes as a gatefold LP (white vinyl!) as well as a cd.

“Aula’s compositions move within a field that excites, challenges, embraces, and moves all at the same time.”

– London Jazz News

For the release tour of ‘Aula’ they played at Brussels Jazz Festival (Flagey, sold out), De Handelsbeurs, Brand Festival (KC Nona, Mechelen), CC De Schakel Waregem, Arscene Hansbeke and the Lokerse Jazzklub.
